The
hepatitis E virus is usually transmitted by
sewage-contaminated water, but can be transmitted by close person-to-person
contact. Hepatitis E is a common cause of acute
viral hepatitis in developing countries. It usually affects adults and has
an unusually high mortality in pregnant women. Symptoms are similar to hepatitis A. There is no vaccine for this disease which
proves there is no substitute for being foodwise and waterwise. |
